What should be noted when installing steel grating?
Time:2021-11-23
Steel Bar Grating is a fabricated product consisting of load-bearing flat bars arranged at specific pitches, intersected and welded with cross bars (typically twisted square bars) to form a grid with square openings. It offers excellent ventilation, lighting, heat dissipation, anti-slip properties, and explosion-proof performance. It is widely used in petrochemicals, power plants, wastewater treatment, port terminals, and architectural decoration.
So, how do we install steel grating, and what should we pay attention to? Let’s go through the key points below:
1. Inspection Prior to Installation
Before installation, inspect the steel grating against the approved shop drawings. Do not use any grating that fails the inspection.
2. Installation Sequence
Confirm the installation sequence in advance. Install the panels strictly according to the drawing numbers and layout plan.
3. Direction & Layout
Ensure the bearing bar direction (span direction) is correctly oriented perpendicular to the supports. Installation must proceed from the structural steel stair/landing outward to the surrounding areas.
4. Fixing & Finishing
Each steel grating panel must be secured with at least two sets of fixing clips. If welding is used, apply touch-up paint or galvanizing repair spray to the welded contact points immediately after welding to prevent rust.
5. Progressive Installation
Secure each panel immediately after placing it. Never stand on an unfixed grating panel during aerial work.
6. Fall Protection
Personnel performing aerial work must wear safety harnesses and implement proper protective measures.
7. Tool Safety
Workers are prohibited from carrying small tools or parts (such as wrenches, welding rods, etc.) in their pockets to prevent them from falling and causing injury. Use tool lanyards whenever possible.
