What should I do if the steel grating is deformed?

Time:2021-11-23

Steel bar grating is widely used across various industries, but after long-term serviceor even upon arrivalusers often encounter warping or deformation. So, what are the specific factors that cause this, and how should we handle it correctly?

1. Reasons of Deformation & Basic Handling

There are many reasons why steel grating may warp:

Manufacturing Defects: Poor welding techniques or insufficient quality control during production can compromise the internal stress balance, leading to deformation.

Improper Handling: Inadequate protection during loading, unloading, and transport is a primary cause of damage.

2. Corrective Actions:

Handling: Always lift and move grating panels carefully. Avoid dropping or throwing them.

Edge Deformation: If the edges are bent, gently tap the deformed area with a rubber mallet or a hammer with a wooden block to straighten it.

Center or Large-Area Deformation: Place the warped panel on a flat, level surface. Apply pressure or gently tap the high spots with a hammer until the panel regains its flatness.

3. Caution During Correction

Apply Moderate Force: When correcting warped areas, always use moderate force. Excessive hammering can damage the welds or the zinc coating, making the problem worse rather than fixing it.

4. Using Auxiliary Tools

Using the right tools can save effort and improve results. For severe warping, using a hydraulic press or placing heavy weights on the panel while it rests on a flat surface can effectively restore flatness without causing further structural damage.
