Guide to Selecting the Right Steel Grating for Industrial Platforms
Time:2022-03-22
Selecting the right steel grating for industrial platforms is a critical engineering decision that balances safety, load capacity, and long-term maintenance. The optimal choice hinges on matching the bearing bar size and pitch to the required uniform and concentrated loads, while adhering to strict deflection limits (typically L/200). For most industrial applications, 30mm pitch serrated grating finished with Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG) provides the ideal combination of slip resistance, structural integrity, and corrosion protection. Whether for heavy-duty forklift aisles or standard walkways, ensuring the grating is tailored to the specific environmental and load demands is the key to a safe and cost-effective installation."
1. Load Requirement:
Determine uniform load and concentrated (wheel) load. Heavy-duty areas → larger bearing bars (e.g. 50×5mm, 60×5mm); light walkways → 25×3mm or 32×5mm.
2. Bearing Bar Pitch & Cross Bar Pitch:
Common: Bearing bar pitch 30mm, cross bar pitch 100mm.
→ 30/100mm offers best combination of strength and open area.
3. Surface Type:
Serrated: Recommended for outdoor or oily platforms (anti-slip).
Plain: For indoor, clean, dry areas.
4. Material & Finish:
Carbon Steel + Hot-Dip Galvanized (HDG) – most common.
Stainless Steel (304 / 316L) – corrosive / hygienic environments.
Aluminum – lightweight, corrosion-resistant.
5. Panel Size & Support Span:
Ensure bearing bars are placed perpendicular to supports, and span does not exceed allowable deflection (usually L/200 or L/250).
5. Optional Features:
Cutouts, notches, stair tread nosing
